I’ve been working as a lighting technician and console operator for several years now. I used to rely mainly on Wysiwyg for my designs and floor plans. At some point, I started to feel frustrated with the tools we have for designing setups.
Not because they’re bad.
But sometimes, I just wanted to do something very simple.
Draw a scene.
Place a few spotlights in it.
Move them around.
See what the setup looks like in 3D.
Export it.
Send the plan to someone.
And I’d end up opening software with a multitude of features, complicated workflows, licenses, subscriptions… Even though it seemed like a “basic” and simple step to me.
During a post-COVID web development training course, I had the idea to combine lighting and development.
I simply thought to myself, “It can’t be that complicated to create a little tool that does exactly what I need, right?”
Well… what a mistake…
It was ***damn complicated. 😅
The first version of this idea was actually a web app. I started developing it with Symfony and JavaScript, mainly because that’s what I knew how to do at the time—what I’d learned during my training.
Then I added features that I felt were essential, and I needed new tools… which meant learning even more.
And it became a full-fledged application.
That’s how Logodenn started to grow.
The goal, however, remains practically the same as it was at the beginning:
a simple tool
And—perhaps most importantly to me—a tool that doesn’t require selling a kidney or paying for hacks on AliExpress. (I’m looking at you, Cast Software.)
I’m now at a stage where Logodenn is actually usable. I’ve given the first versions to a few colleagues, and a “test” version is available on the project’s website.
It’s still a work in progress.
Some features seem obvious to me (but maybe that’s just me)
But anyway; finally… versions are coming out, they’re functional, the software is affordable, and I’m starting to feel proud of my project.
